I have a sewing machine!

Praise be!

To be honest, I have had a sewing machine in my loft at home since before Christmas, but it was languishing there unused, unloved, as I was unable to make it work.

Thankfully, my mother’s student is a sewing machine guru and had a look at it for me the other week, and it is working! Well. It was working. My dad had to give it a bit of a jiggle around and oil it some, as it was jamming. I haven’t tried it since, so I am unaware as to whether it is running smoothly, but I can always hope!

It is a Toyota model, so if anyone owns one, I will be in your debt forever if you gave me any tips etc. They would  be most appreciated I can tell you!

Anyway, I did some sewing on my machine before it gave up; I started making a Sorbetto top! I am very excited to announce that I have tried again at a Colette pattern, as that was one of my sewing goals (and four months into the year, I fear I have not accomplished many of them.. oops!)

2015-03-27 09.47.29I cut a straight six (Only because when I got the pattern out of the plastic wallet I had put it in at Christmas, that was what it was cut out as. I haven’t a clue if that is my size, but I am too lazy to check trust past Rhiannon’s judgement.

Excuse the unironed fabric; it is some sort of bedding I think; there are cushions in my sister’s room which look suspiciously similar to this top.

I managed to machine sew the arm holes together before it gave up on me; I think the pleat stressed it out too much. I am actually quite unsure as to how I should go about sewing it down. I will probably do it by hand; yes it is slower, however I have so much more control over what I am doing!

Anywho, this is a bit of a boring post; I just wanted to update everyone on the fact that I now have a sewing machine! (Which is exciting stuff for me, if not everyone else!)

Have a happy week!

PDF Pattern Chaos – and Christmas Presents!

Christmas songs are booming through the house, and I am finally home! (Well, I got back on Thursday but shhh). We are having an early Christmas today, before we go off and visit family on the big day. This morning we opened a couple of presents each, and mine were sewing related, yay!

I got a teeny weeny travel sewing set;

(So cute!)

And, – I am so so so happy Yay!- I also got ‘Love at first stitch’ by Tilly Walnes. I have heard  so many good things about this book, and I am so so excited to start sewing her creations! The Francoise dress looks beautiful and I think I have the perfect material to make it in, but I am just waiting on finding it cheaper – whether it be on eBay or in a sale-. Anyway, very exciting stuff!

As you can see from the title, and also if you follow me on instagram, I spent last night painstakingly piecing together PDF patterns. They will be the death of me, they take so long!

I put together the free Colette Sorbetto top; yes I am willing to give them another go, even after my disastrous run-in with the Violet blouse.

I also printed cut and stuck the leggings pattern I bought while on discount, and now just need to find/order some appropriate material and I will have a go in the new year. (All very exciting as I bought myself a gym class membership, which starts in January…)

The last pattern I put together was the Fancy Tiger Crafts Sailor Top I won, which I am also excited about finding fabric to use. I may even stash bust (ha ha ha) when I get back to uni; one of my wardrobes is getting very hard to close with the piles of material in there!

If you are interested in seeing all the things I have won so far, have a look at my winnings page.

Here are some photos of the chaos from last night;

Happy holidays everyone!

Halloween Costume Bargain

I know I know, another post in the same day.

But I simply had to share an amazing purchase I made today;

two Halloween costumes for 2p.

And yes, you did read that right. Each costume cost a whooping 1p, as they were reduced to clear! Originally costing £15 each, I saved a massive £29.98!! Incredible!

I know what I am being next year!

And if it doesn’t look great, a) it won’t matter because I paid 1p for it, and b) I can simply alter it!

I love a good discount, don’t you?

Not too bad in my opinion!

I also bought a bag of assorted buttons for 33p (to add to my rapidly expanding button collection)

That is all I have to show you for today, but I will keep you posted on any more hauls!

You may have noticed in the title of this post, I mentioned a celebration. Well WordPress have just informed me that I have reached 50 likes on Sewpunny, and 30 followers. This is a small amount in comparison to more prolific sewing bloggers, but I am very proud, and so thankful to those who take the time to read my rambles, comment, like and follow.

Every time I get a notification, I am so excited, it really makes my day!

So thank you everyone!
